Chief Wolf Robe

By mwilcox

Chief

Without a provenance or artist's signature pieces like this are difficult to verify an origin for. This one is similar in design to those painted by William McKendree Snyder (AMERICAN, 1849-1930) of Cheyenne Indian Chief Wolf Robe, but the quality of the painting is not near as detailed. Most like this have been sold through Native American souvenir shops in the Western states since the early 1900's, with similar examples still in production. Those signed by the artist often sell at auction for over $500.00, unsigned examples tend to sell for far less, generally for less than $350.00.
