French Provincial Style

By mwilcox

The style of this suite is what's referred to as "French Provincial", a simplified version of 18th Century Louis XV furniture. This style was extremely popular, produced during the turn of the 19th Century, the 1930's and again in the 1960's. The best pieces were made in Europe, but furniture of this style was also produced by nearly every major North American furniture manufacturer. The European examples often were constructed closer to the origins, with more hand carving, the North American examples tend to use applied machine cut moldings.

The style has most recently been revived as " French Country" and is still in production as both French Country and French Provincial.
This style is not currently as popular as it was and demand for it has been in decline. Currently a comparable suite would sell in the $500.00- $800.00 range at auction
