Theo A Koch was one of the top two producers of Barber chairs. The company was one of the first to be in the Barber supply business, established in Chicago circa 1871-72. This one, constructed with an Oak frame, dates from the turn of the 19th Century. Values for vintage Barber chairs had a big run up during the late 1980's to early 90's, along with other nostalgic memorabilia such as Juke boxes, Coke machines and Victorian furnishings, but demand and values have declined since that time.
The Barber chairs in good or restored condition though have held their value far better than examples in need of restoration. This one is in top condition and still has all of its original nickel plated trim intact, examples like this one even at auction could easily go for over $3000.00 and retail for twice that figure.
