This table is in the American Empire style, which had it's first period of popularity 1815-30 and another at the turn of the 19th Century as "Empire Revival". This example is of the second type, "Empire Revival" type made at the turn of the 19th Century. While most of the originals were made of Mahogany, the later revival pieces tended to be constructed of Quarter sawn white oak, which exhibits a characteristic stripe in the grain many refere to as "Tiger oak".
Demand for tables in this style currently is very modest, it peaked back in the later 1980's and has declined since that time. Currently comparable tables to this one now sell at auction in the $300.00- $400.00, one in very good condition today would retail for less than $800.00
